Burger Bar & Bistro

Sliders and Sidekicks with Trivia to boot!

Did you know the first American hamburger was served in New Haven, Connecticut, according to the Library of Congress? I didn’t, not until I accidently stepped into the world of trivia down in SoNo.

I’d heard of it before but had never been to Burger Bar & Bistro in South Norwalk (SoNo), Connecticut, until I met up with my sister one night for a bite to eat and discovered Tuesday Night Trivia.  Every Tuesday, Burger Bar does a trivia night in which you and your friends can play along and compete against other teams for prizes. Each round is worth a different prize, such as a free appetizer or free burger, as well as a $25 Burger Bar Gift Card. The categories for each round range from Movies to Famous Places, Celebrities Before They Were Stars and the always popular Dirty Minds – which is a series of clues describing something that sounds sexual, but the actual answers will surprise you!

The best part about it is you don’t have to be a trivia genius. It’s clear that everyone is there to have a good time with no one judging you on what you know or don’t know. You should hear some of the silly and creative guesses that teams come up with when they don’t know the answers!   And if that doesn’t cause a chuckle, the team names people come up with sure might! Whether you play or not, it’s fun to just listen to the antics that go on around you.  But trust me, sooner or later you’ll want to join in.

Even if trivia isn’t your thing there’s plenty to do to keep you entertained at Burger Bar.  Remember Connect Four? How about Jenga? These classic games are available to play right at your table while enjoying cocktails and waiting for your food to arrive.

The menu at Burger Bar is just as enjoyable as the entertainment. Your server will greet you with a free basket of homemade chips, which are so addicting! But don’t fill up on them. You need to leave room for the variety of starters and sliders, including the must try, Frickles – fried pickles! Hey, don’t knock ‘em til you try ‘em.  They also have Kobe sliders, the “Boomer” Burger, the “Cowboy” and Disco Fries, along with other “sidekicks” and signature burgers.

Noticing a slight western theme from the food names? You’ll also see a touch of ranch style in the décor, from the cow logo to the pair of southwestern skulls painted on each side of the restaurant name above the bar – which by the way has over 30 varieties of beer – 8 on tap – and a great selection of spirits, with your Tuesday Night Bartender, Leena, always ready to mix up a cocktail and pour a shot.

There’s also a nostalgic flair throughout the restaurant, with signs such as 10 cent hamburgers and old fashioned ice cream. But don’t be fooled, these classic paintings are actually done by a local artist – who clearly must be a Pabst beer lover by the number of Blue Ribbon paintings that are also featured!

And what better way to end your meal than with a sundae or “adult shake” made with Gifford’s Famous Ice Cream! They even have an ice cream bar, so you can pop in any time for a cold treat, maybe after the movies, which is literally next door.

Burger Bar & Bistro has so much to offer that you’ll never be disappointed. With great food, friendly staff, convenient downtown location and all sorts of entertainment, it’s a great place to go for a date night or enjoy an evening out with family and friends any day of the week!

P.S. – if you’re there on a Tuesday Night for Trivia, be sure to say hi to Karen (that’s me) I’m the Trivia MC! ;o)
