Max's Oyster Bar

Hemingway Would Love This

Max’s Oyster Bar was a surprise, mainly because we could barely get inside! Entering through the big wood and etched glass doors we found the bar area packed with people. Conversations swirled, glasses clinked, silverware chimed as we finally found a couple seats at the bar.

Our bartender handed us a menu and we ordered a couple cocktails. Corona for Dave, and‘The Hemingway’ for me. Made with 10 Cane Rum, Luxardo Marascino, fresh grapefruit and lime… amazing. The old school cocktail list uses an array of infusions and spirits to freshen up the classics, something you’re sure to enjoy.

Ordering some munchies, we discovered the reason for the crowds; Max’s Oyster offers Happy Hour seven days a week! The dozen oysters Dave ordered were a “Buck a Shuck”, while the generously filled Blackened Fish Taco duo for $2 had me wanting more.

Other $2 menu offerings included Truffled French Fries, Black Mussels in miso sauce, a ¼ lb burger with cheese and Grilled Chicken Satay. The $5 menu featured a Confit Chicken Taco, Fish N’ Chips and Chorizo Sausage “Dog” among other delicious offerings.

All too soon we had to beat feet to our next stop down Farmington Avenue. We really didn’t want to leave and are already planning a return visit when we have a few hours to relax and eat our way through the menu.
