The Hook

An Old Fire Hose Company Rocks the Town

Barely open five weeks; The Hook is located in the former Fabric Fire Hose Co. factory in Sandy Hook, CT.  (Pretty neat, huh?) The mouthwatering aromas of Italian cuisine greet you at the door and will immediately tantalize your appetite.

The place was packed with the Saturday night crowd of locals who were catching up on the weekly gossip but we managed to find a couple seats at the far end of the bar.  The casual atmosphere was slightly reminiscent of a decent sports bar and certainly not unpleasant. The brick walls and wood floors of the former factory which lent a nice warmth to the place.  And judging by the flying wait staff and general noise level the dining room sounded pretty busy, too.

Our bartender Julie, who also happens to be an owner, handed Dave a Corona while she and I debated the finer points of several martinis.  Deciding to have an espresso martini I sat back and watched as Julie mixed one up.   Dinner tonight was gonna be a nice, thin crust pizza which we were told was a hot seller on the menu.

As we sipped our drinks and waited for our pizza, we watched as Julie very competently trained a new bartender, dealt with many drink orders from the wait staff and generally choreographed the chaos that embodies a busy restaurant.  I couldn’t help but chuckle as Julie instructed the apprentice to wet some coffee filters and wipe every freshly washed wine glass in case a water spot marred their sparkling countenance.  Now that’s what I call professional pride!

The pizza was placed in front of us and just as quickly it was gone.  The fresh marinara sauce was spread with a light touch and perfectly complemented the fresh garlic, broccoli and sausage.  This was definitely a keeper!

The Hook has a varied menu of Italian-American favorites with something for everyone.  With sufficient parking and the historic novelty of the former factory building to add charm, The Hook is a good addition to the recent growth of eateries in the Sandy Hook area.

Have you been to The Hook yet?  Let’s compare notes!  If not, then we recommend you give The Hook a try. You’ll find Julie there every day, too.  🙂

And when you go, tell Julie the MartiniHunters sent you!

Ciao!  Ummm… I mean Cheers!
