The Vesper Martini

The Vesper Martini

 No Heineken For Me!

With the recent release of Skyfall, the new 007 movie, and Bond’s departure from his usual martini to a Heineken of all things, I queued up Casino Royale in the blu-ray and made note of Bond’s previous libation, the Vesper.

Being the resident martini queen, I have a collection of shakers and martini glasses from which to choose so I couldn’t resist using my very special “Die Another Day” shaker and glass. Wrong movie, great cocktail…my bad.

Bond fans everywhere will immediately recognize the name… Vesper.  James Bond’s lady love in Casino Royale appeared to be icy and the Vesper lives up to that billing.  It must be “shaken very well until it’s ice-cold”.

The Kina Lillet vermouth can be found today as White or Blanc Lillet.

Chill your favorite martini glass

  •  3 parts of Gordon’s Gin
  • 1 part of vodka
  • 1/2 part Kina Lillet
  • lemon peel for garnish

“Three measures of Gordon’s, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it very well until it’s ice-cold, then add a large thin slice of lemon peel. Got it?” – James Bond, Casino Royale

Cheers, James…
